Which degree is more beneficial?

I'm currently in a standstill. I want to get an associate degree in the health care field. Its between dental hygiene or an assoc. degree in health science. I prefer online education over attending college because I'm married and have a son who is 13 months. It'd just be easier for me to learn at home without all the hassle of book juggling, backpack toting, etc. However, I do want to just get my associate degree and move on. I really don't care to go back and get my BA. What type of jobs are actually useful for a health science degree? Is it just a gimmick because its too broad and no certification is offered online (for obvious reasons in a health care field) and I could possibly be waisting time and money? Can I really become a Medical Assistant off of that degree? Or that just a ploy to get me to pay for a degree to go back and do some more certification courses later? I'm in the state of South Carolina if that helps with Certification questions and then some. Thanks in advance!
