NO you are not automatically exempt, automatic exemptions are Under 18, 18 and in full time education, pregnant, had a baby in last 12 months, recieve pension credits, tax credits income support or Job seekers, If you dont fall into any of these categories then you may need to pay. You can fill out an HC1 form which you should be able to get from your dentist or opticians you send this away and it will take on average 2 weeks for a decision. They decide how much you will pay towards treatment. this ammount will depend on how much you earn and how much you have in savings etc, You can also use this from for glasses wigs and prescriptions. when it comes back you will either get no help, and hc3 for partial help or Hc2 for full help. usually certificates are issued for 6 or 12 months, what you should do is make sure you have your teeth checked before the expiry date on this HC3 or HC2 and that course of treatment will also be covered by the certificate. the amount on the form is the maximum you pay for treatment, max amount just now for someone with out an HC2 or 3 is £384 these HC3's can come back with any amount on them you may have a max of £40 where your friends may have higher or lower amounts its all personal to you. Hope this helps!!
