Is it possible to keep my dog and still join the military? And which branch is best for dental assistants?

Saturday, January 22, 2011

I'm 22 and have been considering the military, not sure which branch yet, but I have a 2 year old yellow lab with whom I could never part. I am wondering if after basic training and boot camp whether she would be allowed to stay with me or if the military lifestyle would prevent me from giving her the happy home she enjoys with me now. I have family that is willing to take care of her for as long as it takes but it pains me to think about being away from her for very long she is like a child. My question is really about the timeline, what happens after you sign the papers, where they send you and for how long. BTW I am a dental assistant and would like to work in dentistry in the military as well and am curious about which branch would be best for that. Thank you for your help.

Well i know exactly how you feel about your puppy but the military will not allow you to have her in the barracks so she wouldn't be able to come with you. If you were married and lived in a house then you would be allowed to have her with you. The best branch I would say for a Dental Assistant in the Navy or even the Airforce.
