I want to be a dentist when I grow up, and have since I was in 4th grade. I am a senior, and applying to colleges now. There are so many out there, and I don't care where I go in the country. What are some schools that either offer great pre-dental programs or are well known as undergraduate schools to prepare for dental school? Specific examples would be great, thanks!

First of all, you do not necessarily need a "pre-dental" degree. My husband is in dental school and I don't think anyone in his class actual majored in pre-dentistry. You will need to major in a science (biology, chemistry, microbiology, etc.) and keep a GPA of 3.5 or higher. What schools "look good" on an application will vary, depending on what dental school you apply to. Any major university should be fine, especially one that has a strong science program, but smaller schools in that specific area will also be well received. For example, my husband attends Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and there are students from bigger, well-known schools from all over like Clemson, NC State, UNC, UGA, BYU, etc. However, there are students from smaller schools in Virginia as well like James Madison University, University of Richmond, Hampton-Sydney, etc. Hope that makes sense and good luck on the dental school journey. It is hard work, but well worth it to do something you have a passion for!
