Dental care at home????????

http://health.howstuffworks.com/home-remedies-for-tartar-and-plaque2.htm The link above lists a number of home items useful for dental care. Are any of them reliable?? And are there any reliable ways to remove tartar at home? The nearest dentist is in another city and it's not really an affordable trip at all. I've heard sandpaper suggested, but that just sounds bloody awful...

Some of the remedies listed can do tooth damage (especially vinegar). Do good brushing and flossing to help prevent tartar build up. Some places sell dental scalers (sickle). Those help clean tartar off of the front teeth only. You can order one online. Most tartar develops on the lower front teeth, but it can build up between teeth and below the gum. These areas are nearly impossible to clean yourself. Prevention is the best thing (floss). Try to schedule a dental visit along with any other business you may have in the neighboring town. Good luck
