Dental care, bad teeth and brits?

A few times now i have heard about the brits and there so called dental care, we all have 1 or 2 teeth left and there falling out. can i ask where this rumour started and also about Deamonte Driver

I think the reason that many Americans think that British people have bad teeth is that American dental care is done via insurance. In the UK we have to pay for it ourselves unless we are very lucky and have an NHS dentist (very thin on the ground) and even then we have to pay for it unless we're on benefits. The Hollywood smile that is so popular in America is very expensive here. I had 2 teeth capped and it cost me £3000 which to put it into context is about 3 months rent in London. The whole mouth would be totally out of most people's price range. Day to day dental care is improving in the UK but there is still a very real fear of the dentist from childhood for most people when dentists were pretty scary places to go.
