Free dental care? Even on privet?

Saturday, November 13, 2010

I posted this up in the dentist section but nobody replied! I am currently pregnant and heard you are entitled to free dental care,I recently moved to another city and there were no available NHS dentists,so I joined a privet one, which cost £55 for just a check up,they said I needed £200 of fillings done, there is no way I can afford that! Yet on the NHS it would only cost me about £30! So what are my rights,if any,to free dental care while pregnant on the NHS if they are all full? Can I claim for privet or get a grant? Thanks.

Theres a form you send off -( I got mine from my doc when they confirmed my pregnancy) and you receive your maternity exemption card. you get free prescriptions and dental care when pregnant and up until 1 year after the birth. have you already got this? if not speak your doc/midwife. you definitely cannot get private dental care for free, only nhs. you will have to find another dentist further away (you generally dont have to live in the postcode area to register with dentists) or see if you can go on a waiting list somewhere locally. i went recently (i have a 5 month old) and have several dental appointments booked for fillings - all free. however, they recommended i see the hygienist too which i did have to pay for (£24). you just have to show them your card. good luck! x
