I am currently pregnant and heard you are entitled to free dental care,I recently moved to another city and there were no available NHS dentists,so I joined a privet one, which cost £55 for just a check up,they said I needed £200 of fillings done, there is no way I can afford that! Yet on the NHS it would only cost me about £30! So what are my rights,if any,to free dental care while pregnant on the NHS if they are all full? Can I claim for privet or get a grant? Thanks.

You need to look in your phone book and find out the NHS number and ring and enquire where you can find an NHS dentist that is still taking or has space for patients in your area. They should be able to help you. You cannot use the private dentist and claim the costs or get a grant. If there is a shortage of NHS dentists you may have to be prepared to travel to another town and the other issue will be waiting times for a dentist appointment as well. The NHS fee scale is split in three bands and your fillings will cost more than the amount you think. Have a look on the NHS main site and the fee bands are listed there.
