anyone living in mexico or know someone retired in mexico?

My husband has always wanted to retire in Florida, but that appears to be a dream that may never come with the economy as it is. His parents like mine, when they retired had pensions, health care plus social security so they never had to touch their assets. He is self employed and I am um-employed, so we are looking for places that are warm, (no snow, we are in the midwest) to retire. I have been reading articles that state the health-care and dental etc is great and the cost is almost nothing compared to the US. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any thoughts or articles to suggest otherwise?

I am retired at age 44 in Acapulco. Luckily I do not have any health problems so my experience and advice will not be of much use to you. The health care here like the other stated is dicey at best. The doctors generally got their education abroad so I would not have a problem with that aspect. I have been here a little over 4 years and have seen a lot - with that said.....If I had a serious medical problem I would NOT want to be here to get it treated. Another person stated this is NOT for everyone. Mexico is far different to live in than what one might experience on vacation ! It can be harsh at times. Seeing the poverty , dealing with the govt for various things , driving , trash in the streets.....Just far different when you live here. Cheap ???? You bet , I could not do this at my age anywhere else.Hence the reason I am here. My suggestion.....Come down and explore a town that interest's you . Stay for about 3 weeks and look at it as a residents point of view. Where to do shopping , how to get around , housing conditions and prices , crime....I think you know what I mean. It is impossible to see it this way if you don't look at it from a residence point of view. It is NOT for everybody. I have seen many people at our favorite watering hole for about a year and then they pull up stakes as it was not all it was cracked up to be.
