California Dentistry Laws?

I plan on being a dental hygienist. I currently live in Va. I want to go to a community college here and get my general studied taken care of & then move to Ca finish my other year at a dentistry school. Can i do this? Its only two years to be a d.h. here in va. what are the laws in ca? thanks <3
