Does anyone know if there are any criteria that would make my ex ineligible to receive any further child support payments? I live in New York State. I am required to pay my ex $100 a week for child support. I also pay $220 / month for health, life and dental insurance for my ex, my daughter and myself. My ex has to pay me 1/2 of the insurance costs each month ($110). I take care of my daughter 50% of the time each week, and I pay for everything she needs when she is in my care. I do not understand why my ex is entitled to $100 a week out of my pocket, and she is not at all accountable for how it is spent. I love my daughter and I have every intention of providing her with anything and everything she needs. For all I know my ex spends the support check on drinking and her new boyfriend(s). Ironically, she quit her part time job @ $80 a week one week after she was awarded the $100 / week of support. Even good father's are considered deadbeats in this system. Help! :(

First thing is that its not your wife who is entitled to the money, its your child. You are supposed to cover her when she is with you and the only other money you are paying is 1/2 of her insurance. Depending on the age of your child, $400 a month may not even cover day care. If you were the custodial parent for your child, she wouldn't be able to dictate what you did with the money she would give you. So, unless you have proof that your child is not being taken care properly, you merely have to suck it up. The courts have financial guidelines. They don't just come up with an amount.
