Hospitalization (MAJOR MEDICAL) Prescription Coverage Out Patient (Dr. Office Visits, House Calls) Right to pick your own doctor within the network Emergency Care Surgical Care Optional: Dental/Optical Very Least Must Have Hospitilization/Surgical/Emergency
--------------------
If you aren't poor enough for free health insurance, try the Healthy NY plan. It is useful if you are unemployed (so your income is very low) but have assets and don't qualify for Medicaid. There are no dental and vision benefits, but the cost is low and it provides major medical coverage. As far as prescription drugs, that is optional, but there are co-payments, a $100 deductible, and a $3000 maximum, so it may not be worth the extra cost. The only strange thing is that to qualify for this, you have had to work within the past 12 months, and you need to re-qualify annually. It doesn't say how much you had to work, so if you are unemployed and still don't have a job after a year, you can probably find some temporary menial job for a day and use that.
