How can I care for my chipped tooth?

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Last night I was watching some TV while eating some ruffles chips. As I finished eating, I normally try to get some left over crumbs between and on teeth with my tongue till I noticed a sort of slightly rough surface. (Facing me) It's my bottom second right tooth starting from the middle. Now this is my first chipped tooth ever. I live with my gf right now and at the moment I don't have a regular job. I'm just doing a little buying and selling on eBay. So that means I don't have a dental plan right now. I did when I was living with my parents last year, I also had braces for 3 years in high school. I am 21 years old now. Now the tooth doesn't hurt at all which I hope is good since I guess I didn't hit any nerves and the chip wasn't deep at all. But my worries is getting it infected or letting sweets get trap in there making the tooth decay. It's literally on the top part of the tooth. What is the best way to care for this without having a dentist? Here's the damage: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c112/havokid/IMG_0230.jpg Honest facts: I don't brush as much as I should. I will now! I don't floss at all but instead I've always been using this small dental hook to get crumbs out of my teeth which really works, I bought it at Walgreens. But I will start flossing from now on. I will also avoid eating chips from now on and drinking soda. I've heard drinking more milk and water will help the tooth heal on it's own and create it's own clear coat protection again over the new revealed surface, true? Also what type of tooth paste can help small chipped tooth? Or what product can I buy to help cover the new surface? Any help will be appreciated.

It shouldn't cost that much to get it fixed, since its just a small chip. I would get it fixed as soon as you can because it will be cheaper in the long run. If you end up chipping it more, you could need a crown which will cost you over 1000 or a root canal if you get sugar or plaque down in there. It will cost the same amount to fix your chip tooth as it would if you were getting a one surface filling. They will just fill it up with composite material. (same material they use to fill your tooth with (tooth colored filling) It should be around 100 bucks, which is way better than over 1000 dental assistant student
