Dos And Donts Of Counseling And Therapy

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Everybody needs counseling at some of point of time in their lives. Taking counseling does not mean that a person is mentally ill but it is generally some guidance and suggestion given by an expert to make our lives more comfortable. There are some dos and don'ts that are followed by therapists in Orange County, CA. The bare minimum requirement has to be followed by the therapist or else it is better to change the therapist immediately.

One should make sure they get certain things when they visit a therapist. They are: Undivided attention. This is the most important of all. This is because if they don't pay attention to what you are saying then, they would not be able to solve your problem and in worst cases even give wrong advice and aggravate the situation. Hence, undivided attention is utmost important. The atmosphere where the discussion is happening should be calm and quite. It is also important that the place should be private so that all the discussions would remain confidential.

In case there is any therapy to be done it should be with the consent of the person. Unless the person is willing to participate, no therapist can forcibly give a treatment. The details of the fee to be given and the number of sittings for a counseling session and duration of these sessions should be clearly discussed beforehand so that there will not be any problems later on.

Orange County Counseling aims at improving the family relations and any other emotional problems of the people in Orange County. The counselors here are highly qualified and licensed to conduct counseling sessions. But, sometimes there are things which a counselor does which he or she is actually not supposed to. For example a counselor or a therapist is not supposed to be talking more of them. Unless there is a therapeutic reason for this he supposed to just listen to you speak and not talk. Sometimes in the long term treatments, it is possible that the therapist gives out more information about their personal lives but this is not to be encouraged in normal conditions.

Sudden change in fees is also not acceptable. Especially when the treatment is long term the therapist may suddenly ask for a hike in the fee. This is because they may feel that the person undergoing treatment would have no other choice but to pay because he already took counseling sessions for a long time with this particular therapist. This can turn out to be an ugly situation for both of them and is better avoided. So, before going to a therapist or a counselor, it is better to first have a few sessions with them and understand if they would really be able to help you overcome your problem. If not it is better to look for someone new.
