How can we get $300 extra a month?

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

My husband and I have three children (two are mine, one is his) and we both work full time. He is an assistant general manager at a hotel and his hours vary because he needs to be available 24/7. It is not possible for him to pick up an extra job and he is salary, so overtime is also out. I also work full time and go to school online (now part time because full time was taking too much precious time away from my children). It may sound odd but I cannot afford to work more than I do now. I pay $125 for my children's babysitting every week and this is half my paycheck, I cannot afford anything more, I can't even afford that. I have toyed with the idea of dropping out of college to work an extra job, but that further complicates my problems. After I'm out of school, I have to start paying back my loans, whether I have graduated or not. I don't want to get a part time job and all of that money go to pay off the loans, then the things we are short on now still don't get paid. We have cut expenses as much as possible. We do not have a home phone, we stick to our cell phones and yes, with three children and an unreliable car, and my husband being the AGM, the cell phones are an absolute necessity. My car is paid off so I do not have a monthly payment, when I got my taxes, I paid 6 months of insurance, so that is also not something that is immediately plaguing us. We have poor credit so our payments that we do have are high, I alone have 36 and 32 % interest rates on my Care Credit (a dental procedure I needed done) and CitiFinancial (we had to borrow money for our home). My husband pays the rent and all utilites, I only pay for the internet, which I need for school. I pay my own bills. We have no credit cards either. What used to be a $75 a week budget for groceries has decreased (when the cost of babysitting increased) to $40 for all 5 of us. As you can imagine, it's nearly impossible to feed 5 people on $40, no matter how cheap you shop. I am lost and feel like a terrible mother because I can't afford to put enough food on the table for my family. We make just over the limit to qualify for any type of assistance (food stamps, TANF, WIC, government housing, etc). Even with my quitting my measley paying job, my husband makes $200 more a month than we'd be allowed for assistance. I do not want to live off the government, I have done that before when I was single. I don't like having to be taken care of by someone else. Can anyone recommend a (legal and realistic) way for my family to make an extra $3-400 a month on our tight schedules?

try a local food bank to help you put groceries on the table

Can I sue for child negligence when I'm not a minor?

So it's just been brought to my attention what child negligence is. I've briefly researched child abuse since I was 10 because my mom has never been very... motherly. And I'm curious if it's possible to press charges now that I'm 19 for never taking care of my dental stuff [that I've been complaining about since I was 15] My ADD [which hasn't been treated even though the doctor said I have it and my mother swears I don't so she wouldn't have to pay for the meds] and my depression, take a wild guess about what could cause that., and my anxiety disorders. All have been professionally diagnosed. While I understand that I'm my own responsibility now, these things had been brought to my parents attention well before I even got close to 18. And I want to go before a judge and force her to take care of now what she refused to then. Is this possible?
--------------------
Unfortunately No. Ive been in a similar situation, I had really serious medical issues and my family refused to help me while they spend money on houses, RVs, vacations, and their own medical treatment, including plastic surgery. They didnt even really feed me, I was severely malnutritioned and suffering from stomach ulcers. Unfortunately because I was brainwashed at the time and did not report them, I cant do anything about it now. I hope that youll be able to get over anything that happened to you, Holding onto the feelings is only hurting yourself. Youll never be able to get back at her, so there is no use in living in the past.

I need some dentist advice?

Little bit of background: I had a VERY bad experience at the dentist when I was younger and I'm terrified of needles so I haven't been to the denist in about 6 years. have naturally very straight, white teeth so I haven't felt a need to go. Anyway, a filling came out not too long ago and then on Thursday my tooth broke (the one with the filling). So on Friday I went for an appointment at a dentist near my house to see what was going on. First thing, I get there and he asks how long it's been since I last went there. I told him and he said "well I think you're a candidate for sedation denistry so you should have that. No discussion about it, just said that he'll send the paperwork to my doctor to sign off on it. Sedation dentistry is $600. Second, he said I need a root canal and crown on the broken tooth (I'm okay with that because I figured as much). Then he said I have some cavities that need work "immediately" He has booked me in tomorrow for a "new patient exam" where he won't fix any of the issues, he'll just be examining my teeth to figure out exactly what needs to be done. He also mentioned that we need to do something about my wisom teeth since I still have those. Now, I'm 26 and I haven't had any issues with my wisdom teeth at all so I'm not getting them removed. Unless they cause me issues, they're not going anywhere. He kept stressing that I need to get sedation dentistry and that I need to get in to get everything done ASAP and how it's very urgent. I have NO issues getting everything done and I would like it done as soon as it can be so that it's all fixed and then I can start going for regular check ups and my teeth will be okay. I don't mind that, but I do mind being ripped off. Also, I felt like he was talking down to me a little bit because it's been so long since I've been to a dentist. He kept saying that I'm showing that I don't care about my dental health and he's upset about that since I seem to take care of myself everywhere else. I was a little insulted by that (there's a little bit of truth in it but still, I didn't think it was his place to say that). His assistants were great, but I just found him to be a little condescending. I'm worried that this doctor is just trying to scare me and trying to get me to get way more work than I need. I want to get the broken tooth fixed ASAP so I'm not sure if I should shop around for a new dentist or not. Anyway, some advice would be great! Thanks!
--------------------
You should def. shop around before committing to his services. My dentist is wonderful! Never condescending, doesn't say things to me like " you should floss more", and she knows my financial situation so she really does take the most serious problems first and doesn't pressure me to come in for less serious things. Dentists will often book you so quickly you barely have time to think things through. Cavities are serious but for those of us who don't have insurance we cant just go in and get everything fixed as quickly as we should or want. If you do decide to stick with him, make sure you speak up about what you want/ don't want. Don't let him bully you into anything!

First time cat owner to a shelter animal!?

A little intro first... I asked a while back about getting a shelter animal, and today I adopted her! Her name is Jenna and she is a 6 year old domestic short-haired cat. I got acquainted with her today and tomorrow I will be taking her home (they need to do her dental procedures before she comes home.) I have never personally owned a cat though my family did for some time while I was a kid. I've already set up her litter box, food and water, her bed and toys and gotten a collar. She will be living with me alone in my apartment. She has been declawed, microchipped, and all of her medical procedures have been taken care of up to date. Her previous owners gave her to the shelter because she 'didn't get along with the new kitten.' Now for my question... As a first-time cat owner, how can I help her settle in, feel comfortable, and are there any things I need to know as a new cat owner? Thanks!!
--------------------
Here is a trick our vet showed us to help our cat acclimate to his new surroundings: Put him into the room that will be considered his "sleeping quarters". Be sure the room has a door which can be shut to seclude him. In this room you should also put his cat box by the door, and his food & water bowls in the complete opposite corner of the cat box (as far away from the cat box as possible). His bed should be where it will always be. Rub a little bit of butter on top of both of his front paws & legs (not too much, just enough to make his paws a bit greasy), and confine him in the room for at least a week. Keep an eye on his paws, when he starts to clean himself, he has grown used to the room and considers it home (cats do not clean themselves when they are not at home). Be sure you interact with the cat many times during this process. You need to be in the room with him as much as you can, petting him, talking to him, playing with him, and if it's your bedroom, sleeping with him. Once he starts to clean himself, you will also hear him purr more often. Then you can let him explore the rest of the home. He will always come back to "his" room if he feels threatened or afraid. At this time you can move his catbox and food bowls to their permanent locations and show him where they are. He will find them on his own very quickly. After a month of exploring your apartment, you can put him on a leash and slowly take him outside to discover the neighborhood. He will quickly learn where home is and he will come home if he gets out. Remember that if you don't declaw him, he will have a much better chance of surviving outside. It seems like a lot of work, but you will be happy with the results. We have moved 5 times since we first brought home our "kitten" and he never ran away. He is 19 years old now. The acclamation process worked every time, even for an old cat. The last time we moved our cat was 10 years old (7 years is considered a senion cat). Good luck, with your new best friend!

How do I get the county to up child support?

My son is now 7 yrs old and most of his life I have had to work two jobs just to make it. I am now unemployed and trying to make it on 119.80 a month that is what is court ordered child support. When we went to court when my son was about 18 months old they court ordered 100.00 a month. Its now been over five year and they have yet to change it. The extra 19.80 is to pay the back child support of 5000.00 because he didn't pay anything for about 5 years. I know my sons father makes over $11.00 an hour diving trucks. Over the last 7 years I have paid all expenses like child care, medical and dental insurances, medical and dental bills, clothing, even the medical bill when his dog attack my child. what can I do? The county just keeps telling me that it will be like 6 months to a year before they will even look into it.
--------------------
You can file an appeal with the courts for them to look over his income. They had to do that with me. Cause I owe 1500 right now and they are threatening to take my license away so I had to file an appeal so they wouldn't take my ability to drive away. But I know they can review his income at any time if you request it cause my ex did that to me.

U know when u are visting the dentist. And u are there for a routine basic exam.?

Ok they are taking the Full Mouth x-rays which is 18 of them. Then the dentist evaluates the patients mouth to see what was done before and what needs to be done. Then the dentist starts measuring the perio pockets. Now the normal measurements is 3mm or less. Now if its 4 and more then its abnormal then they would need treatment care to prevent periodontal disease. But lets just say the patient has 2's and 3's and a few 4's and a couple of 5's. Then the dentist would recommend them to see a dental hygienist and to have a full mouth debridement or a deep cleaning. Now when they have that treatment from a dental hygienist, Would the perio pockets go back to normal if they follow up with the treatment plan and do everything what the hygienist recommends would the patients mouth be fine? Please no stupid answers, I highly recommend someone in the dental field answering this question. Thankyou.
--------------------
Your answer can be yes, and it can be no. A lot of patients will heal up and see improvements in their pocket depths. The hygienist may suggest a chlorhexadine rinse to aid in this process, but brushing, flossing and routine cleanings will help. However, some people are just more prone to periodontal disease. No matter how well you clean your teeth, your pockets will remain the same or get worse. So, it depends on the person. But, your best bet of having positive progress is to take a proactive role in your oral hygiene by brushing, flossing and maintaining proper recall appointments.

Please help! My parents wont let me go to the dentist...?

Ok, I have this pain in the back of my mouth and it hurts alot, i think i might have my wisdom teeth growing i can see a tiny bit of the top of a tooth, but i'm not sure i told my friend about it and she said it might be my wisdom teeth and that she had hers taken out and all she could eat for three days was shakes. when i told my mom about it she said its fine it just means i have new teeth growing, how can i convince them to let me see the dentist, i've never been to one and i'm really concerned my mom is a nurser so i guess she knows about health, but i'm worried. my parents are from nigeria and dont believe in going to the dentist and stuff, but my mom is a nurse and she told me she pays for doctor, dental and the eye care insurance, so why not use it? how can i convince my parents to take me to a dentist? and if it my wisdom teeth, how long will it be until they've grown and the pain will stop and do i have to get them taken out? would now be a good time to take them out or do i have to wait until you can see more of the tooth? thanks ahead
--------------------
Wisdom teeth can grow in without incident. They don't always need to be removed. However, for general dental health, you should definitely see a dentist. Research is showing that more and more medical conditions are evidenced by poor dental health. I am surprised that your mother, a nurse, is unaware of this. Definitely talk to a trusted teacher, school nurse or guidance counselor or friends' parents. They may need to get social services involved. Ask whoever you talk to if there are any free dental programs in the area. Sometimes those are available but you may need to have a limited income to get them. Still, someone needs to intervene. You said you already have the insurance. Usually with dental insurance you get two cleanings a year, so there shouldn't be any additional out-of-pocket cost for your family.

how much does a dentist?

Ushally charge for a check up for a person w/ out insurance?? Also What is a good dental insurance??? Something cheap but takes care of almost anything needed??
--------------------
An in depth check-up and full mouth X-rays will probably cost you around $170 without insurance. In my opinion there's no good dental insurance anywhere. On top of the $30 to $60 per month premium most dental insurance has a $50 deductible, a yearly maximum that they pay out of $750 - $1500. Co-insurance for most procedures of 20% - 50% and waiting periods of up to 36 months for major procedures. I'm an independent health insurance agent and I do not have dental insurance. Instead I have a dental discount fee for service type plan. You can find a plan for around $100 per year here: http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo… These plans have no deductible, no waiting period, no annual maximums and no pre-existing condition exclusion. One word of advice before signing up with any dental plan. Make sure to check the dentist provider list and pick a dentist (if you can't find your dentist on the lists). Call the dentist to make sure they're still taking the plan and they're accepting new patients. Do not confuse dental discount plans with medical discount plans. The medical discount plans are mostly scams.

About woman's Texas medicaid?

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

I was on it when I was pregnant and then they end it when you give birth. While your pregnant they also offer free dental with your health care. I know there is a mothers medicaid is there something that offers dental with it as well?
--------------------
If you qualify for medicaid, there is basic dental. Cleanings and fillings, that's about it. You will need to check though because they keep dropping that for mothers and only including the children. Also I know you didn't ask but you will need to figure out what you will do for long term. Find out what training they have so you can eventually support yourself and your child. Programs are about to be cut even worse so everyone needs to be prepared.

Student loans?

I am starting school in the fall and I know financial aid is going to cover everything, but I'm wondering, can I still get a sudent loan for pesonal use? Like to fix my car, dental work, and pay for my kids day care while I'm in school? If so, what is the min and max you can borrow per semester?
--------------------
Your question is if you take out a student loan can you take money out for personal use. The answer is quite easy. The answer is no until the school gives you a refund check. The max you can borrow for first time students is 7500 that is federal stafford loan. Any loan money is supposed to be used for educational purposes like a laptop or books or anything that you will use for school. I suggest scouting your options before taking out private loans private loans can be very expensive.

Am I careless to decide to be an entrepreneur?

They say find what you are passionate about and then do it. I plan to continue to get really educated in as much as I can to know the ins and outs of the business world. I know its risky to work a business but I also know it is risky to work for someone else too (or at least such has been my experience). I would just like to know your opinion. It is going to take my complete focus to do this and its not like I can go to school for a fallback career while I'm doing all of this. I need to make sure I am doing the right thing. I know if I went to school to be a nurse, dental hygienist or some in-demand, licensed health care professional I would feel more secure in my choice but I would also feel more destitute knowing that is NOT something I could personally feel passionate about( no disrespect to nurses or hygienists cuz I love you all:-) I am 25 and have been on a schooling course that has been all wrong for me (medical). I got a job in medical and that is what it really took to see it. I am meant to be an entrepreneur......as far as I can tell.....What are your thoughts?
--------------------
I hate these SPAMMERS! Do what youre good at and makes you happy. I worked in Mental Health case management for 10 years before finally getting into IT. I took the chance and started my own small business and did well. Go for it! (Take some accounting and budgeting classes)

Help me, please? I just got braces?

M'kay, so I just got braces yesterday. They don't hurt or anything, it's just that I have a question about brushing my teeth too much. So, I got teeth pulled and braces in the same day, within a few hours of eachother and both papers about caring for the dental/ortho work is to brush after every meal. Does this mean snacks too? I already brushed twice today because I only brushed a little before I went running after breakfast, then I did a good brush/floss/etc afterwards. So, do I need to brush after lunch today (a third brushing today!) or is it okay not to, since I've already brushed twice?
--------------------
They say you should brush at every meal, but not snacks. If you got teeth pulled before you might want to make sure your mouth is extra clean so you don't get an infection. :) good luck!

For those that live in Warren Michigan HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Medicaid question...Please help.?

I just approved for Medicaid for me and my daughter. I now have to pick a health care plan and doctor. Who are some great doctors in the Warren area? I prefer a St. Johns doctor. Also hat plan should I choose? I have glasses, does the medicaid cover the expenses for buying new ones? What about getting dental work?
--------------------
Okay .....I don't know about Michigan but I used to investigate Medicaid elsewhere so perhaps I can give you a few suggestions. Many areas have "Medicaid Service Coordinators " to assist medicaid recipients ( you ) with issues such as finding physicians, determining what Medicaid does and doesn't pay for. If you don't have one you may want to call your local department of social services and see if they can refer you to one or refer you to Medicaid Providers ( Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacies, etc. ) or refer you to a Social Worker. In some areas you can phone Medicaid or Social Services and tell them " I am a medicaid recipient and my zip code is ______ and I need the names and addresses of allergists ( any doctor , etc. ) that accept medicaid ? " Generally speaking Medicaid is among the best insurance in the Nation and does pay for eyeglasses, dentists , etc. A word to the wise is that Medicaid does not pay for cosmetic procedures so if you want botox or a gold tooth, etc. Medicaid won't pay for that. Also be aware that some Medicaid Providers try to charge their Medicaid recipient patients ( like you ) money for procedures that they also bill to Medicaid. It is illegal for a Medicad provider to bill you any money at all if they bill Medicaid for the same procedure. One last word to the wise is to screen Medicaid Doctors by either checking them out on your computer ( to see if they have any complaints lodged against them by patients or if they are an attending physician at any good hospitals in your area ) . The Department of Health or Office of Professional Conduct usually maintains records on whether any complaints, charges or convictions/fines were ever levied against a physician. You can also visit or walk-in or drive by a Medicaid Doctors office and if it looks too dirty or too overcrowded you may want to look elsewhere. Lastly some Medicaid Providers will ( like Dentists ) will sometimes lie and tell you things like " Medicaid will pay for your fillings ( amalgams ) but not for your root canals ". That is not true and usually a Dentist may tell you this because he wants to charge you for the root canal because medicaid doesn't pay him as much money as he would like for the root canal. Sadly this is unethical but not illegal as long as the Dentist doesn't charge you and Medicaid for the same root canal. --- Good Luck and there should be special plans just for your daughter.

From a religious perspective, how do you feel about dying?

66% of the United States' residents' public water is fluoridated. It is known to have tremendous effects like bone cancer, joint problems, bone weakness, lower estrogen and testosterone levels, and dental decay such as yellowing of the teeth and pitting in the enamel. Wouldn't it make more sense to enhance public water with vitamins and minerals, which are meant to be ingested to promote general health, than with a deadly toxin with the bogus excuse that it promotes dental health? We now know that flouride causes more dental problems than it solves. Something doesn't seem right about this. Do you honestly believe that these companies care so deeply about the people's dental health to spend billions of dollars to flouridate the public water, when the people already purchase their own toothpaste, which already has flouride in it? But the difference is that you don't ingest toothpaste. Look on the back of a rat poison product, and you will only find one ingredient: sodium flouride. It is the most toxic element outside of potassim dichrome. Now Danon along with other companies have begun to flouridate bottled water as well. But why? And now, we are finding that, nationwide, public water is showing up with arsenic, cadnium, and a radioactive form of lead. Cancer? Lower sex drive? Birth defects? Brain defects? Does this not sound like a wonder drug for anyone aiming to control a population? How do you feel about flouride being in Prozac, because it is shown to eliminate aggression and to sedate people?
--------------------
I embrace it, no fear. I will see my Father who is in heaven and that is my goal.

While it is not addressed specifically in Scripture, the Bible does address the results you mention: Isaiah 33:24 - "And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick..." Revelation 21:3 & 4 - "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."

My mom won't let me fix my cavity help please!?

I found out I had a little cavity in my rear right molar in June. I have dental insurance, but every time I ask my mom when I can fix it before it becomes big, she says, "You should have taken better care of your teeth!" And I have a wisdom tooth growing right next to it that needs removal too! What can I do to stop it from becoming a big, painful cavity as I go off to college tomorrow? Or to convince her to let me get it fixed?
--------------------
If she has dental insurance, and is not letting you use it for dental work,. when you need it, this is called child abuse. When you are 18 she has no more responsibility for you. Colleges usually have medical centers, but looking at her and saying THIS HURTS DO SOMETHING might help. Pretend that it does. I do not know what to tell you, but I am glad I am not in your position.

Become a Dentist?!?!?! =S?

Ok, I definitely know what I be when I grow up. A dentist. But here's the thing, I was wondering I could become a dental assistant then a dental hygienist and then dentist. I don't care how many years it will take, or the money I will spend (even though I come from a very poor family) but all I want is to have a very successful life. I want to be ahead so there wont be those late hours of studying and stuff. But should I do that? Like I want to be more ..you know, more experienced. Is it worth it though? I am a very smart student. This question is always confusing me and I can't seem to make up my mind. Should I just be a dentist or take the long path? But in the end, I know, it's going to pay off.
--------------------
Just go straight for the dentist route. Don't be an assistant, then a hygienist, blah blah blah. What an assistant does and what a hygienist does vs what a dentist does is no contest. When I was in dental school I was my own dental assistant. I didn't have a hygienist, because I had to learn how to do it myself. Even if you become an assistant, and then a dental hygienist, and eventually a dentist, what you learned when you were an assistant may not be the same as when they teach you in dental school. There's your dentist's way that he is comfortable with, and then there's the school's way which follows the text book to the letter. So it won't matter because you either have to relearn or forget what you were taught before. Save time, save money, save your sanity and just become a dentist.

What do I do to fix my teeth? Pic?

I hate my teeth... my parents never really cared for my dental when I was younger.... I have a good job now just out of HS and getting my dental insurance in a little bit... Can my teeth really be fixed? My tooth next to my front tooth to the right is so small... can they build a tooth up kinda like if you chip your tooth rebuild it and then do braces? I am willing to pay for everything.. LOL I am just done with bad teeth, when I meet people i hate talking.... :( http://s329.photobucket.com/albums/l396/… thanks and do you guys have a price range to fix my teeth
--------------------
I am going to assume you are speaking of the spacing of your teeth when asking your question. If you are referring to something else, please revise your question to be more specific. That open space in between your maxillary central incisors (two front upper teeth) is called a diastema. To close this diastema (space) in between your two front teeth will more than likely require orthodontics. While you might have not been fortunate enough to see a dentist regularly when you were younger, you are fortunate to have options with orthodontics. Traditionally, braces (made of metal brackets and wires) would be used to close this space. However, you might be a candidate for invisalign (http://www.invisalign.com/) in order to close that space. Only your dentist/orthodontist can tell you what specific procedures can be performed in order to close your diastema. Keep in mind that your dentist will demand that you maintain a high level of oral hygiene while going through orthodontic treatment in order to have a favorable outcome. (So, in effect, brush your teeth! :) ) Also, other more urgent dental needs (such as cavities and gum disease) may have to be addressed first before closing that diastema. As far as cost goes, this can highly vary. I am not familiar with what type of dental insurance you have, nor its benefits, but traditional orthodontics can range from $2,000-$5,000+. The dentist you select should be able to provide you with further information regarding the procedures available for you.

I think, instead of focusing on the money, you should focus on what you feel more drawn to. Which ones are you more interested in? Which ones fit your particular strengths? You'll need a job that fits you, because when you go through tough times on the job, the money won't be enough. You may also want to consider how secure the job will be. Some of these you will always be able to find a job fairly easy, with few to no layoffs. You will be able to find a job in any part of the country. Others have a higher risk of losing the job due to slowdowns in the economy, etc, or you may not be able to find a job wherever you go. Some of them require college degrees. Are you able to afford college? Are you interested in attending college? Are your grades high enough for you to get into college? I think you'll find in the long run, it's better to have a job that you really like that you're good at, that may not pay so well, than a job you don't like, that you don't want to be at, but that pays very well. Good luck!

For former Abercrombie & Fitch employee's ???

After working at this company for nine months, I really want out !!! How do you tell your manager that you want to resign ? Several reasons why I want to leave this company: 1) They dont take good care of their employees 2) No Medical, Dental, Vision, Life benefits !!! 3) The pay is very low - minimum wage !!! 4) Employees are not given proper breaks, some of the managers constantly forget to give them their breaks, seriously overworking employees !!! 5) No 401k 6) A few of the managers are very rude to employees. When I changed to overnight shift one time, this one manager who is a hardcore perfectionist made this one girl cry by yelling at her for not folding clothes to her standards of perfection. I really felt sorry for her afterwards and she was doing her best. She quit afterwards. Honestly that F****** manager could have said it in another way. This clearly shows how poorly Abercrombie & Fitch managers treat their employees !!!

for those who think benefits should be cut consider this?

please remember that when the goverment talk about cutting benefits to safeguard essential services they are not talking about unemployment benefits Unemployment benefits no longer exist, the Job Seekers Allowance is only for those who are actively seeking work when the goverment say benefits they mean, child care allowance, free bus passes, free eyechecks dental, cold fuel payments, housing benefit free school meals. most of the benefits payed in the uk go to children 2/3 in fact and most middle class families get or are at least entitled to benefits of one form or another. put the image of the lazy dole scrounger out of your mind, JSA is an extreemly small percentage of the benefit budgets.
--------------------
Cut them all,let the people do what they do,take care of their own.Not being cold hearted here,I don't accept VA benefits even though I could get free care.I wasn't injured on duty, they owe me nothing.Smaller government. It will hurt till we get used to it,but the freedom we gain won't be given away so easily next time

i cant find a dentist anywhere around me that accepts my insurance?

i live in massachusetts and i live on the border of rhode island and mass.. I have MassHealth Commonwealth Care/ BMC Health net plan and Doral Dental.. the trouble is finding a dentist.. i do not drive because of personal issues so its hard to get around.. and there is not ONE city around me accepting it. i am in pain everyday.. and if the pain is bad enough i go to the emergency room for quick treatment where they give me a list of dentists.. but the trouble is i called all of them and they dont accept my insurance even though the hospital said they do. i am getting really frustrated and upset over the pain i have to deal with.. it was infected at one point but i took medication and the infection went away. so0 now i am in wonder how or when i will get these dreadful things out and be done with it... if anyone knows of a place or somewhere i can call to find someone that would be great, i am going to try 1800dentists right now to see if that will help.. prob not though.. thanks!
--------------------
Another option could be to call around and see if any Dentist in your area may offer a discount if you were to pay cash, even without the insurance. Sometimes it can be cheaper then if you were to use the insurance. And most people don't to ask for the cash discount and the dentist office isn't going to simply offer it to anyone, that is unless they know enough to ask about it themselves. You can also check to see if there are any Ameriplan providers near you, and if so see how much it will be to get your pain taken care of with the Ameriplan discount. You can look at the plans on the site http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/cberney The Dental plan is only $19.95/mo. for an entire household up to 20 people, or $14.95/mo. for individual. I know that I personally have used the plan for over 2 years and have seen huge savings. I saved over $600 on just 1 root canal last year. Hopefully this will be able to offer you some help. Good Luck! And let me know if you have any trouble doing a search for providers on the site, it can sometimes get a bit tricky.

Why don't pediatric dentist accept Traditional Medicaid as payment?

I also would like to know why pediatric dentist do not treat children with special needs if they do accept the medicaid , every time i ask do they treat children with epilepsy they get scared and refer you to a children's hospital setting? Not all of the children's hospitals have trained and qualified dentist to serve your child's needs, i found this out the hard way after years of taking my daughter to their dentistry only to find out by another dentist that she had 18 cavities in her mouth that was not addressed by them properly. All they have are interns and some of them are there just to fill in space , they could care less about your child's dental needs.
--------------------
Medicaid is an insurance that takes 6 months up to a year to finally pay out and everyone that accepts it has to keep submitting claim form after claim form in the hopes of getting paid. So many doctors like to avoid this insurance whenever possible. Now I think that if your child has a serious medical condition, a Dentist feels better that your child is in a hospital setting, in case something goes awry. You would have to rush your child from a Dentist's office to get proper treatment because he/she is NOT equipped to help your child in an emergency situation. What if she is having a seizure before she leaves the Dentist office? What do you do? What do you want the Dentist office to do? It is NOT because they don't want to care for your child's teeth. Try calling around to some Orthodontist (who use more of a medical setting) and see who can better treat your daughter.

Legal Question Help !?

America Online (AOL) provides services to its customers including the transmission of email. To become a member, a person must agree not to use AOL's computers to send buld, unsolicited, commercial email (spam). National Health Care Discount (NHCD) sells discount optical and dental service plans. To generate leads for NHCD's products, sales representatives, who included AOL members, sent more than 300 million pieces of spam through AOL's computer system. Each item cost AOL an estimated $0.00078 in equipment expenses. Some of the spam used false headers and other methods to hide the source. After receiving more than 150,000 complaints from its members, AOL asked NHCD to stop. When the spam continued, AOL filed suit in a federal district court, alleging trespass to chattels - an unlawful interference with another's rights to possess personal property. AOL asked the court for a summary judgment on this claim. Did the spamming constitute trespass to chattels? Explain.

Joining Air Force question?

I am currently working as a dental assistant and I'm thinking of joining the Air Force. I'm newly separated from my husband and I want to be able to take care of myself. I'm 29 and was wondering what the cut off age is for joining. Also, with my experience as an assitant, would I be able to make rank quicker if I stayed in that MOS?
--------------------
When I went through basic there was a person who was 37 who was in my flight. If you have college experience then yes you can probably get rank faster, but without college, probably not. They aren't called MOS's in the Air Force, they are called AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code).

My tooth is causing me TERRIBLE pain! Help!?

I am 25 weeks pregnant and my teeth have been giving me nothing but issues for the last three months. My wisdom teeth were never pulled and on my bottom left side, the tooth is now broken. I dont have dental insurance, so I cant have it pulled. It is hurting terribly bad now. Nothing helps, not tylenol, not orajel... I havent slept more than three hours in two days. Do I have a abcess maybe? If so, can I take care of it myself??? I cannot go another sleepless day!
--------------------
You can do two things. If u are in CA try to get dentical and that will cover costs or if u are in another state see if they offer anything. The next thing would be to apply for care credit and charge it to there. They offer low payments and no interest. Wisdom surgery should run u about 300 dollars. Take care

Please help with this job application essay question...?

I am applying for a job as an administrative assistant at a dental office and the application has two essay questions that I'm just not sure to what to put down... I'm excellent at my job and I don't want to sound stupid with an obvious kind of answer... the questions are: 1. Please write out your goals for the position for which you are applying. (my thoughts are, to get the job and assist in office management... but I think they may want more than that) 2. Please write out your understanding of the purpose of a dental office. (again my thoughts are to provide the communtiy with quality health care... and again, I think they may want more than that) Please help me!
--------------------
I know from working for a dentist that reducing chair time is very important to them. The more patients that a dentists can see, with no mistakes, technically or administratively, the more money he/she makes. Every one in a dental office plays a part in this. As far as your goals, be honest. If I were an employer, I know what the truth is and would appreciate honesty. My goals would be to be of service to whom I'm working for, and to help make the employer more money, thus justifying my services.

Do I have to get my sister a card or something for Mothers Day?

My sister and I share custody of my son. I hate it. I'm a single mom. Long story short my family tricked me into it. At first it was to help out here and there. Then it was to help out with medical bills. My son is ADHD. He has a lot of bills for medicen and counsling. Dental. Braces. Then it was to pay for sports stuff and swim lessons. Then it was to change his school. The one by her house is better. He stays with her half the week then me the rest. Then they said I needed to sign a guardenship paper so they can claim him on their taxes since they were paying for most of his care. Well now she has taken total control. If feel if I do anything to upset her or my family, they wont let me see my son anymore. They did it once when I was dating someone they didn't like. Things are kind ok now. Do I have to reconize her on mothers day? She is not his mom or ever will be. Someone suggested a thank you card. If I don't I feel it will fuel the fires again and make her mad. HELP
--------------------
Your family sounds a little too controlling...nonetheless, you should still let your sister and family know that you appreciate them helping you out...it doesn't necesarily have to be a mother's day card...since you are the mother

Should I leave my job?

In between loosing the dental and vision and a large portion of the medical insurance my job provided, and working with a less than skeleton crew on a regular basis why should I stay at work. It has been so frustrating dealing with management that seems either not to care or has their hands tied thanks to the corporation. Not to mention the attitude of everyone around, negative and pessimistic. Should I find work elsewhere or ride this annoying wave more?
--------------------
I personally think life is to short to live a life your not enjoying. Go back to school if that's what suits you, but you should enjoy where you work. I wouldn't quit till you find work somewhere else though due to the economy. Good luck with whatever your decision is.

Health insurance question?

I see alot of questions regarding not being able to afford health insurance and that is why a lot of people support nationalizing the health care system. I wonder if any of them know about Medicaid? If you cannot afford your health insurance, you can get on Medicaid. It is free and widely accepted. Laws vary a little from state to state but if you can prove you can't afford your health insurance or are not eligible, you will probably qualify and your kids definitely will. Why do we need to nationalize the entire system when there is already help available? There are also the CHIPs (Children's Health Insurance Programs), and Medicaid covers dental. Do we really need to nationalize health care? Do you feel the quality of care will suffer? Why or why not? I saw an answer that said even if they do nationalize health care, you can still choose to pay for private insurance. But how long will insurance companies be able to stay in business trying to compete against a free system?

Infant/toddler tooth discoloration?

Monday, March 14, 2011

My friend's son (he's almost 2) has had a discolored-brown bottom tooth ever since it came in. She mentioned this to the pediatrician and dentist, but they didn't seem too concerned. However, now she has noticed that another one of this teeth is the same color AND his bottom gums are starting to look weird. She is militant about dental hygiene, so it's not tooth decay. He was in intensive care for a few weeks when he was born, but other than that he is a happy and healthy little boy! Does anyone have experience with this or any ideas of what could be causing this? Thanks!

It may be due to medication, just leave it, it is a baby tooth

Health insurance in USA is a complete rip off, scrap it and lets get competitive tendering in for taxpayers to?

I noticed my old friends in the USA are having a big debate about healthcare, getting a better service for all and at a better price. From some press reports I have read Some of you do not like to look a gift horse in the mouth? maybe you work for insurance companies I suspect! This is why I KNOW that Americans are being scammed and ripped off by the Government, Health insurance and the hospitals. I am from Uk but spent 7 years there in San Diego, Houston and Phoenix and I needed treatment 3 times for various things. On all 3 occasions I was charged a small fortune ($2000) for menial medical work, (a stitch in my lip and check pulse, most of the time I spent waiting to be seen, (hours). When I told them I had no medical insurance they reduced it to $300. Case 2 Blood tests ($940) but if I paid cash $130, Sharps Hospital San diego. Houston local doctors remove a boil on my back $260 but for cash $45. Dentists San diego all treatment less than half price just for having a $50 family discount ticket.(not insurance). I saved thousands off that ticket. Wife had a baby, $10,000, but we had no insurance so we paid $250, (some local tax on tobacco and booze paid the rest. I have heard some say health care in USA is far superior to the free one we have here in uk, WELL IT FRANKLY IS NOT, you have lawsuits over there in USA that prove that healthcare in UK is just as good as USA and its almost free here. True, non urgent things may require an appointment a few weeks forward but anything urgent is dealt with quickly. The ambulance service arrive within minutes of being called and they don't carry invoices or calculators for $2000 taxi ride to hospital! I think you should back your president, get almost free healthcare for all, get better pricing and everyone who works pays a little extra tax just as we do here in Europe, we call it National Insurance contributions, its about 5% of your capped earnings/wages, this covers not only health care but also sickness benefits, retirement pension, dental, optical, unemployment / disability benefit, child and workers tax credits Nobody is ever excluded and there is no CoPay either, They fix you no questions asked, a very comforting thought. Whoever heard of an insurance policy where you go to hospital and have to pay half the f***** bill as well? In the American System the employer pays insurance the employees pay too and then there is copay fees to pay too? who is getting all this money? where the heck is it going? at the prices they charge there should be no copay. For you die hards there is BUPA health insurance that UK has too but that is cheap, a fraction of the USA cost. OK Americans let me know your thoughts do you want an almost free healthcare for all in the USA, similar to UK? if you don't prove to me why your rip off system is better? your system benefits the rich and the scammer hospitals and insurance companies. SUPPORT YOUR PRESIDENT
--------------------
Edit: You know what... You don't live here, so it's not your problem and it's none of your business. It's NOBODY'S responsibility to "share their wealth" with others. What's mine is mine. What's yours is yours. Edit 2: On #5, I said "Medicade" (for poor people) not "Medicare" (for senior citizens). I don't give a flip what kind of quality health care you have in the UK. So no, I don't "know it". 1.) You do not live in the USA, so I really feel your few hospital encounters here do not qualify you to judge the system we have. 2.) This is a capitalistic, not socialistic, country. America was founded on religion and hard work. Too many people expect a handout these days. People need to work hard for the things they want. 3.) This wasn't a worldwide issue until Pres. Obama chose to make it such. 4.) Sure, I have problems with my health care. But guess what: It's MY body and MY money and I'll do whatever I choose with both. I don't need some angry person across the Pond to tell me otherwise. On top of that 27% of my income comes out of my paycheck (from taxes) before I ever even see it. About 12% already goes "into the system". I don't need that number to be raised so that someone I've never met can get it. 5.) Our country has many health options. People can choose from private health insurance companies that are in many cases covered by their employers. Many people who cannot afford health insurance qualify for Medicade and state health care programs. And what about the Health Department? There were a few years growing up when my family didn't have health insurance. We went to the Health Department when we needed to see a doctor and got proper care there for little or nothing. 6.) And what is all this, "If I paid cash..." stuff you're talking about?? I have never in my life heard of a hospital or doctor's office saying, "If you pay with a check or bank card, it will be $300, but if you pay with cash it will only be $50." If that happened to you, you were scammed by some greedy, dishonest employee. 7.) My health is none of the government's damn business. It's NONE of their business what my health conditions are. I am not a burden to society and I pay all my debts. 8.) Think back to the history classes you took.... Many people who started this country (the USA) came here seeking freedom from England. Please don't stir that up again. Just because you guys have a certain health care policy doesn't mean we have to use it. 9.) Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Stop trying to brainwash people. Have you nothing better to do with your day??? 10.) One of the beautiful things about our country is that people don't have to agree with the President on every issue. This is not a dictatorship, it's a democracy. I support my country and our military. I do not support President Barack Obama's health care plan one bit. That's one of my American rights.

what am I doing Wrong?

Ok....first of i have a six month old....i have two job im a dental assistant still doing intership......and in the night im a dancer......my ex boyfriend takes care of my son but he complains, he doesnt have a job and he feels its too much pressure on him.....i get mad because its tripple hard with my lil one what should i do???
--------------------
What are you doing wrong? I guess having a kid without a plan was a start. And stripping for money would be another thing. And you are not a dancer. You don't do ballet or hip hop. And there is nothing exotic about it. You are a stripper. Call it what it is. If it was not shameful women would not pretend it was something it isn't. What could you do right? File for child support, apply for a grant, get a part time job, apply for daycare assistance and spend more time with your child. If this ex is your son's dad, he should be working instead of staying home with the child. If he worked and you had support to pay for childcare while you were in school and worked a normal job you would not have to degrade yourself for money. And being viewed as nothing more than boobs and butt is degrading.

Now the so-called Friends of the Hunley have their hand out so that they can raise money for this decrepit wreck. And I can't believe that the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations) a law enforcement agency is supporting an activity that probably is in support of the KKK,The League of the South and other spin-off organizations such as the sons and daughters of the confederacy. The GBI needs to re-open it's books on unsolved murders of blacks and civil rights workers and all the unsolved lynchings and those not brought to justice. It even sickens me further that police officers like myself would stoop to be a friend of people that once hung black people from trees, see below the name of the GBI on the Friends of the Hunley I wonder if the Director of the FBI would allow this!!!) If he doesnt have a reaction when you are hurt does it mean he doesnt love you?

I have been noticing lately that my guy really doesnt care when I am hurt. For example I had dental work done an when I got home I told him it hurt really bad and he didnt even say "do you need an asprin" or sorry or anything. Also I fell down the stairs, I wasnt really bad hurt or anything, just bumped up, I didnt say ouch or complain, but he kind of laughed and didnt help me up. Another time I burned my hand on the stove and yelled "ouch" really loud and all he said was "what happened"? It just seems strange to me. I am an adult woman and I dont whine and cry about these things, in fact my tolerance for pain is pretty high. Do you think this guy just doesnt care?

Hi Denise, Dump this heartless creep. He is only out for what he can get for himself. When you fell down the stairs, and he was laughing about it,and then walk away without helping you up,or seeing if you were hurt,i would off kick his a s s out the door,as hard as i could kick. i suddenly have a sort of gap in my top teeth..its not big nor noticeable?

it also doesnt hurt....i started using a new battery operated tooth brush and a restoring mouthwash and now i notice it what could this be...also i have black lines along my gumlines on my teeth...its much worse on my bottom teeth....i do drink alot of coffee w sugar and i smoke....if someone in the dental field could answer this i would really appreciate it...i brush 3 times a day and rinse w peroxide nd water once a week..always use mouthwash so its not like i dont take care of my teeth...i dont have dental coverage so annual trips to the dentist arent really in my budget...the black lines arent causing any pain or discomfort at all and u cant see them when i speak...there pretty much on the gumline i dont feel any grooves when i run my tounge across my teeth...WHAT COULD THIS BE PLEASE HELP ME A WAY TO REMOVE OR PREVENT THEM FROM GETTING WORSE AT HOME...MY NEW COVERAGE DOESNT KICK IN FOR 6MNTHS AND IM GETTIN MARRIED IN 4...PLEASE SOMEONE HELP
--------------------
Is the gap actually there?....but since you have said we so much conviction, there must be gap. First of all, please note that this gap has not at all developed due to your using a battery operated tooth brush and any mouthwash. But why dont you change over to a nice manual toothbrush? Please note that the most common cause of such a gap developing in between top teeth( or for that matter any teeth) is the gum disease. When I read in your question that this gap is neither big nor noticeable, I feel it might be that it is not at all there.....with due regards to your perception, I must tell you that some of my patients also come to me with the similar complaint....that they feel that gap has developed.....but when thorough dental checkup is done, we dont find anything unusual and the patient is reassured. But, for that also a visit to the dentist should be planned. Even otherwise what you have said black lines along the gumline........in all probability these are dental calculus deposits only which can be very easily removed ......yes, you are right wher you say that you dont feel the grooves when you run your tongue across your teeth......it just happens., in alll probability these blacklines must go away with just the professional cleaning . Another reason that I must tell you for these black lines along gum line is just the increased melanin pigmentation .......for that actually nothing needs to be done. But, in all probability in your case, dental calculus seems to be the underlying cause. yes, plz note that even if gaps have developed in your top teeth......there is always professional help for that to help you out.....the most most important component of that help being to prevent further increase in those gaps.

Why can't USA have Universal Healthcare like in Canada?

In Canada, you have a single-payer system so this keeps the wealthier people from paying into a different system from the poor people. If you had it any other way 1) Universal healthcare would be a segregated system of an elite healthcare for the wealthy, and a system dry of funds and no resources to suit the poor who are ill. 2) The rich would complain that they don't want to pay taxes to support a universal healthcare plan they opt not to use. This is why we need a single-payer system like in Canada! Basically all the doctors, all the hospitals run privately, but the US Government serves as a broker to distribute the funds to the hospitals and doctors. Also in Canada's system, the Government does not interfere with your medical records at ALL! All they do is distribute the funds from taxes. In Canada's healthcare system, each part of Canada has its own programs to subsidize supplemental costs like dental, non-urgent care, things like that. You can get your own insurance for say cosmetic surgery. Also in Canada, the Government of Canada negotiates with pharmacy suppliers on what prices should go towards prescription drugs, which is why prescription drugs are wayyyy cheaper in Canada and people in the US run to Canada for their medications. Why can't we have a system just like in Canada like they did? At first Canadians were skeptical back in 1962 and there was a Doctor Strike, but 3 years later 90% of the people! 90% of Canadians...supported Unviersal healthcare! We could have it too! why don't we? Why don't we?

Increasingly, employees are being allowed to choose benefit packages from a menu of items.?

Increasingly, employees are being allowed to choose benefit packages from a menu of items. For instance, workers may be given a package of benefits that includes basic and optional items. Basics might include modest medical coverage, life insurance equal to a year's salary, vacation time based on length of service, and some retirement pay. But then employees can use credits to choose among such additional benefits as full medical coverage, dental and eye care, more vacation time, additional disability income, and higher company payments to the retirement fund. Using the theory of consumer behavior, how do you think flexible benefit packages would affect an employee's preference between higher wages and more benefits?
--------------------
Most employees do not understand the benefits being offered or the hidden costs associated with employer contributions. On the other hand an increase in pay is very simple to grasp. Giving employees credits towards purchase of optional benefits allows them to see the real costs of the benefit programs, and makes them a more educated and appreciative employee.

To join the air force or not?

I am 16 years old my B-day is in july. I am wondering if I should join the air force? I don't mind moving since I don't have any one to stay were I am for. I also like to serve my country, and retire at an early age if I choose. I don't know if I wont to join the navy or air force, but I am thinking air force. I also don't mind having dental and health care. I also don't mind going to tech school for a while while I am in the air force even two-three years. I just don't know what I want to do in the Air force or navy any suggestions or which one?
--------------------
Air Force, without a doubt. Better conditions overall, better housing, no getting stuck in a boat and sharing your bed, no crappy assignments to ****-holes no one has ever heard or... Your career choices in the AF will better assist you when you decide to get out... I made that decision over 35 years ago and my Military Service was pivotal in me getting into law enforcement and retiring once and coming back to chase fugitives. Good Luck

Should I retire or keep working?

My employer is pushing "early" retirement on many employees over 55. Anyone that been there more than 37 years will receive a special incentive of 85% of their last three year's gross salary. Since I'm now 58 and will have been there 38 years come September, I qualify for this. I will also not have to pay health insurance premiums because I have over 800 of sick leave accruals, but dental and vision care are not included. I did a quick calculation and found out I will be getting close to $4000 a month under the current plan. I can't apply for Social Security for a least 4 more years even to get the minimum amount and 8 years to get the maximum (if there's anything left by then). I have no debts or dependents - my car is paid for and I live in a house I inherited, so I just have to pay for insurance, maintenance and utilities and I never married or had kids. I thought of getting a part-time job if I do retire and have sent out some resumes, but none panned out. My problem is that I have specific skills (scientific research) that don't apply to most jobs that are looking for clerical or sales experience. Not many employers are looking for someone that can do gel electrophoresis or gas chromatography. I just thought between what I will be receiving in my pension plus the $750,000 (not a TYPO!) I've managed to save, I can get along. Is it possible in light of today's economic situation and inflation? Any suggestions to improve my situation in retirement?
--------------------
You seem worried about how you will survive and how you will keep busy. You have lots of good stuff. You have your house and you have $750,000 to manage plus your income. Give yourself a break and enjoy yourself a little. Your energy levels are coming down and you have until aged late 70s where you can still move around and see some of the things you have been missing in life. You seem intelligent so get out and explore what you have been missing by working all these years. Like many retirees you may find that you wonder where you had time to work all these years. I retired 6 years ago at aged 52 and I have never been so busy...just takin' care of business...my business.

I guess everyone should be rich in America and be able to have the best dental and health care always and if not - then you should not be a winner; because that would not be American. Pain management after tooth extraction?

I have a cracked tooth (involving the root) that has been killing me lately. My oral surgeon and dentist are overbooked (something about summertime and kids getting their dental problems taken care of . . .), so I had to see a new dentist because it was abscessed (I was running a fever of 101+). The new dentist scheduled an extraction for tomorrow. Sorry for the background, but here's my question: I typically have SEVERE pain after extractions (I've had 3 before . . . and 2 dry sockets), and I don't know if the new dentist will prescribe me something for the pain tomorrow after the extraction. (Before someone accuses me of being out for pain meds, I certainly would find a better way to go about it if that were my aim. Paying $200 for some Lortabs and suffering with mouth pain? No thanks). Because of stomach ulcers, I can't take Ibuprofen or anything over the counter other than Tylenol. So, understandably, I'm worried if the Dr. doesn't write for something I'll be stuck. My husband says he's never heard of a dentist pulling a tooth and NOT giving something. So am I worried for nothing?
--------------------
I was going to suggest Nurofen but that is ibubrofen. Pity that you cannot tolerate it - Consider whether you can take it with milk or something more substantial like semolina custard. Would you be able to tolerate it then. Nurofen is much better than paracetamol or codeine even when it comes to dental problems; experienced with trying them all! I would like to offer the suggestion though that not ALL dental extractions are painful. The last time I had one I took no medication at all; no real ryme or reason to it. Definitely ask your dentist to prescribe something in case you need it though; they should be the first to offer suggestions in this regard. Good luck.

Why is it you can go to the ER if you break a bone but there no ER for Dentists?

I chipped one of my wisdom teeth in half and need it removed. I have insurance but it only covers half the cost for removal. I am in really bad pain and my dentist told me if I don't get it removed soon that things could get much worse. Why is it if I break a bone I can go to the ER and get it fixed and they bill me later but if I break a tooth I have to suffer unless I come up with tons of money and risk things getting worse. I know about Dental Schools and Care Credit. I could not find any schools near me and got denied for care credit. Any help would be great.
--------------------
The ER is presumably for life threatening things or things that must have attention quickly to avoid them becoming a life threat. Unfortunately, teeth are not usually one of those items-however, if the dental injury is bad enough the ER does have dentists on call. If you kissed the dashboard, for instance- the oral surgeon will be called in. In your current case, I'd suggest you call around to other dentists in the area and find one who is willing to work out a payment schedule with you to cover the other half of the cost your insurance will not pay. A decent dentist is willing to work with you, and understands that the cost issue is a pain in the wallet. Part of the problem with insurance is that we traditionally have viewed dental care as a nice to have thing, rather less important than medical care. As you noticed, the cost is not cheap and insurance has not kept up with the rising costs. It's not the nature of an insurance company to want to pay out the big bucks either- which is why they pay more towards preventative care than reconstruction. They'd rather pay less and encourage you to take care of the teeth than pay for the expense it takes to fix them. Even when the cause is something like a broken tooth which can't always be avoided. Insurance companies are a business, after all, in the business to make money- not pay it out. Best advice is to dentist shop at this point.

How far over the line do the Democrats in Congress have to go ?

they are making deals to buy votes left and right ! Last night they made a deal with the union daddies a 65 billion dollar deal, they pay no tax on there cadillac health care until at least 2018, and then they still get a better deal than the rest of us . They also pay no tax ever on dental and eye care. This includes all the high paid union people and government employees ! Nebraska cut a deal , Louisiana got a deal the rest of us are getting screwed ! We will be making up the money they are buying votes with ! So liberals just how far into the corruption will you let them go ! They have done this behind closed doors so we have no idea what they are doing , if it was going to benefit us they would be singing it from the roofs in D.C. Just what is it going to take before you see that they are stealing you blind !
--------------------
Yes, anyone still defending the current crop of Democrats needs to wake the fk up. NO SPECIAL INTEREST LEFT BEHIND.........Gotta love corporate welfare!!!! Let's recap: No public option, no watered down public option, no medicaid buy-in, and no cheaper drugs due to backroom deal between BIG PHARMA and the WH. Obviously this sell-out to corporate America was not enough to get 60 votes in the Senate. So then they cut the "Louisiana Purchase" with Landrieu and bought her vote for over a hundred million. Then there was the "Cornhusker Kickback" which they used to buy Ben Nelson's vote for over $100 million. AND NOW they have made a special deal ("Labor Loophole") to exempt organized labor from the new excise tax on "cadillac" plans. If you happen to be in the middle class and own one of these plans BUT AREN"T in labor union........tough sh*t. And of course Obama flip-flopped on almost every single substantive campaign promise he made as a candidate with regards to healthcare. (1 Transparency, 2 Individual Mandates, 3 Taxes on Cadillac Plans) Are Democrats really going to try to sell this piece of sh*t as REFORM?? http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NjZ… The nation's labor unions, according to Congress Daily, have cut a deal with House Democrats: Labor will drop its opposition to the so-called Cadillac tax — an excise tax on high-cost employer-provided health-care plans — if Congress will carve out an exemption for plans provided under collective-bargaining agreements. Even after all the unsavory bargains and rotten deals that have characterized the rush to get this thing passed (the "Louisiana Purchase," the "Cornhusker Kickback," etc.) the "Labor Loophole" surely takes the prize. A few Democrats in the Senate already tried this trick and were laughed out of the smoke-filled room, so nakedly obvious was the special-interest favoritism at work. That the Democratic party is seriously reconsidering this deal is a sign of how desperate it has become to pass a bill — any bill — that shoves the federal foot through the waiting-room door. --------------------------------------… 1. Obama promised to have healthcare negotiations on C-SPAN......(obviously these negotiations are taking place behind closed doors.........hence the vote buying etc.) To be fair: cameras were allowed to film for a whopping ONE HOUR. http://www.breitbart.tv/c-span-ceo-white… 2. Obama campaigned AGAINST a federal mandate for individuals to buy private insurance.........(he now supports it........hmmmm) "I mean, if a mandate was the solution, we can try that to solve homelessness by mandating everybody to buy a house. The reason they don't buy a house is they don't have the money. " -Candidate Barack Obama http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoSnqofel… 3. Obama campaigned AGAINST taxing "cadillac plans"...........(he now supports it) "John McCain calls these plans "Cadillac plans." Now in some cases, it may be that a corporate CEO is getting too good a deal. But what if you're a line worker making a good American car like the Cadillac? What if you're one of the steelworkers who are working right here in Newport News, and you've given up wage increases in exchange for a better health care" -Candidate Barack Obama http://firedoglake.com/2010/01/07/cadill… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8wmN3wvh…

Mental health and substance abuse care will be fully covered. Long term and nursing home services will be included. You will always choose your own doctors and hospitals. Costs of coverage will be assessed on a sliding scale basis. Tremendously simplified system of medical administration Total portability – your coverage not tied to any job or location. Existing Medicare benefits for those over 65 will remain the same or be vastly improved in many cases. http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_hr676.… http://www.hr676.org/

Can I delay a claim for extended unemployment benefits for 2-weeks?

I was just approved to receive extended unemployment benefits in the state of California. I am thinking about before I submit the first claim, I would like to go overseas for 2-weeks to have dental procedures done. When I come back, I will just re-activate the claim. Here is the main reason why I rather do it over there: Doing the math, it will cost me 75% (including airfare) cheaper than what it will normally cost here in the U.S. I am trying to mitigate this potential problem of affecting my job search in the future. While overseas, I will still be able to apply for jobs in the U.S. and check my emails and voice messages at least twice a day. The only problem is I will not be physically in the U.S. Anyway, it is getting difficult to contact CA EDD to ask this question on whether I will be allowed for a short period of time to have my dental issues taken care off. Do you or anyone you know experienced this situation of need to travel while on unemployment and got some useful answers? Thanks.

Does anyone else listen to 96.5 the mountain in the mornings and tired of the talking?

The whole entire time I'm getting ready for work, all I hear from 96.5 is talking, not about anything really either, just a few people talking about whatever they can think of, stuff that we really could care less about. What happen to MUSIC ? I've listened to 96.5 forever but now , I'm gonna have to find another station, one that actually plays music in the mornings. I get so tired of the nonsense they waste time even talking about, it makes me ill before I ever get to work. Who cares if what's her name had to take an out of date vicodine last night for dental work ? Who cares if what's his name got a hair cut yesterday ? This radio station is almost like somebody just stuck a Mic in a room where a few people are sitting around talking, about NOTHING.

Why are Americans so afraid of socialism?

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Most European countries (as well as many others) have socialist governments and/or systems. These provide: 1. Extremely low infant mortality (compared to the USA). 2. Free dental and medical care for all "minors" (i.e. children). 3. Practically free health care for adults (subsidized dental). 4. Free education through university (students even get PAID a "study allowance" to go). 5. Between five and six weeks of vacation annually. 6. A social "safety-net" designed to ensure the basics of life. 7. And, a quality of life far above that in the USA, plus longer longevity. So, what, exactly, is the problem? (Oh, yeah, and multi-party parliamentary systems of government, which are far more democratic than the "binary system" used in the USA.)
--------------------
Honestly? I can't wait to see the number of thumbs down I get for this one, it really will entertain me. Fear. The Cold War. Cuba. USSR. North Korea. Zimbabwe. These are the countries and concepts that are thought of when you say the word "socialism". These countries and concepts are actually designed to attempt to be communist, or just totalitarian dictatorships. When you say the word socialism, Americans (mostly the right wing side) don't think of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, England, France, Luxembourg, Finland, Iceland, etc. All of these, hard-working, westernized, advanced countries offer advanced medical and social care for the lower classes and end up with the results listed in question. Yes, the taxes are high, but in a true socialized-medicine society you're also not paying for health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance. Also, if you lose your job you are able to continue your current lifestyle until you can find more work. Here in the states, if you lose your job you automatically lose all of your benefits and insurance. Heaven forbid you fall and break your ankle or come down with swine flu after losing your job (something happening at an astronomically high rate right now), you'd be screwed. Yeah, because having state run colleges where students go for free is a terrible thing. Heaven forbid we allow bright young minds of my generation to attain an advanced degree with out paying $10,000 a year up to almost $50,000 a year. I can't count how many of my peers over the last two years had to drop out of college and lose their dreams because either they couldn't afford to go anymore or couldn't get anymore college loans, so socializing higher education is a terrible thing. We already have several socialized institutions; the postal service for one and no one is complaining about that, how about the police force, and fire departments? How about the primary education system? That's been socialized for centuries. I saw the word "freedom" tossed around about taking away our freedoms. Exactly what freedoms are being taken away? Our right to live long healthy lives? Our right to the persuit of happiness? Our 1st amendment rights? 2nd amendment? 4th amendment? 5th amendment? Nowhere in creating a more socialized society does it have anything to say about Americans losing their freedoms. Socialism is a good thing, it's not communism, it still forces people to work, and rewards those who work hard. There is a very high standard of living to be had if people could just get past the word "socialism".

thinking about moving to Canada with Vancouver Island in mind?

Hi, im thinking about moving to Canada, have been for awhile now. I live in Massachusetts right now, but have been drawn to Canada for years. I can never find much pride or much to celebrate in being an American. Massachusetts is beautiful, but is very expensive to live in. Living here half my life, I feel the people are rude, uptight, and set in their ways. I cannot afford college, dental, or health care, and feel like im just a number in a corporate and government system who is thought about only as a consumer. I dont know if its the complete opposite in Canada, and feel foolish believing it is that drastically different than the U.S but it is nice to know that they have universal health care, That makes me believe that the government cares about the people atleast somewhat. Does one stand any shot as a Entry level worker in Canada? I find the environment to be so beautiful and find it so lovely that the people there take care of it. It seems like a wonderful place for an aspiring artist/musician like myself. Vancouver Island and the Atlantic Provinces interest me the most, but Vancouver Island especially because im drawn to the west coast perspective of life. They have mountains, the ocean, close to nice cities, and its far away to start anew. Can you give me some further knowledge of Vancouver Island such as cheap places to live that have entry level jobs available? and how life is like in Canada? Im starting my savings now and am very serious about moving there within a year or two. Thanks so much!
--------------------
I'm puzzled about why you aren't asking any questions about the immigration process. You aren't already a Canadian citizen? Immigration to Canada as a skilled worker is a long, cumbersome, and expensive process for those who qualify. Without education and related work experience, you would generally not qualify. If you are between 18 and 30, you may qualify for a temporary worker permit through a working holiday program for students or young people. Look into SWAP, IAESTE, and CIEE. It would be unlikely to find an inexpensive place to live on Vancouver Island where you could support yourself with readily available jobs. Vancouver Island is probably the place Canadians most want to move to, because of the climate. The Maritimes and Newfoundland are a better bet.
