This is typical of insurance companies since they want to make it as hard on you as possible to collect. Don't give up. Call the insurance company and really get on them about your long term disability. You have to really make some noise with the insurance company and your doctor since one will depend on getting reports from the other. Everyone that I know in your situation goes through this with disability insurance through work. You get the forms filled out from long term disability from your doctor and they will have to pay you even though they will try to starve you out by stalling things as much as possible. That's why you need to keep bothering them all the time. They will use excuses such as the report didn't come, faxes never reach them, someone else is handling your case right now and they aren't in, etc. It just goes on and on. Don't give up because you are not going to have any other option with your illness. Most insurance companies will also require you to apply for Social Security Disability even though you have long term with them. The reason for that is because if you are accepted for SSD, then all they have to do it make up the difference in what they pay. Example: If your long term insurance pays you $1500 a month and SSD accepts you and pays you $1000, then all the long term people have to pay you each month is $500 to make up the difference. You will get the $1500 for the length of your long term policy. A lot of times it's goes for 5-6 years. If you are not working and have no health insurance and do not have a lot of assets, you might qualify for state aid until you get things straightened out with your money and health insurance. It's tough, but you have to find a way to get by until everything kicks in with your persistence. And what makes it worse is that you have to do this while being sick. Maybe your family can help you out for awhile. There is a 5 month waiting period from the time you stop working until you will be able to collect anything from Social Security. That's why you have to pursue your long term disability because that is all you have got for awhile. It's tough, but hang in there. Has your doctor talked to you about getting a transplant yet? I had cirrhosis from an autoimmune disease and had to get a transplant. I'm doing fine today. Since your hep C seems intent on destroying your liver, I think that might be in your future. It's scary, but it will give you good health again. Transplant was my only option to staying alive. I wish you the best.
