Why do prisoners get free medical and dental care for committing a crime?

Yes they do. Most of the medications that they get while in prison are generics, but, yes you are footing the bill. When they are incarcerated, the jail takes "care and custody" of them. Which means, to the average person, takes care of all thier medical problems, from normal complaints of head aches to surgeries. If an inmate has to be sent to the hospital, if he needs new glasses, if he requires any thing that you or I on the street would get, he gets it too. While many inmates state they do not get the best care or the fastest, trust me, its better than what most people get, but for free. My husband works in the medical dept. at the jail. I also work at the jail, but in a different unit.
