Guinea pig expert please! dental work. (UK)?

Hi, i am advanced in the care of piggies but i need expert advice. one of my piggies had bad teeth all of a sudden, so he had them clipped but they just kept getting bad. we have had tears sweat and you name it, everything to keep this little boy going. he has been syringe fed and i have been up in the middle of the night feeding him. anyway cut a long story short, he developed an abscess, this was lanced and he healed completely! yes, our hard work paid off. last week his abscess came back, you talking 2 months max since the last one. he had an xray and it picked up that one of his teeth at the back is pushing into the gum. now i asked the vet (a cavy expert) if she could remove the tooth and she said no its too delecate etc and hard work, but i have read on the internet that someone had their piggies tooth drilled and it worked! does anyone know of a good dental expert in the UK i could ring up and talk to about this. i dont wanna lose him. the vet said its only fair to on him if he goes down hill again to put him to sleep. i dont think i could cope without him. he has been my life since he has been poorly. thanks

Hi, Im very sorry to hear about your poorly guinea pig. Mine and my boyfriend piggy had the very same problem, we were told by the vet that once a piggys teeth start to cause problems they will just continue to do so... the only thing you can do is like you say operate on the teeth under a anesthetic but this will only make the problem better for a short period of time and guinea pigs can only cope with so many operations. We had our guinea pig go under 2 operations and his teeth got better for a little while and then grew back to cause more problems, we decided it was no longer fair on him to keep coping with the pain and all of the operations on his teeth and had to put him to sleep. It was a really horriable thing for me, as we loved him very much and he did become part of our family, but at the end of the day us as humans wouldn't want to suffer either so sometimes we have to cruel to be kind because afterall animals cant make decisions like these themselves!!!
