I went to the dentist on Monday morning and got 2 fillings taken care of in the lower right corner of my mouth. Immediately I felt like my tongue was "dead" and I freaked out somewhat. The dentist assured me I would be okay and he proceeded with his work. 2 days later my tongue still feels somewhat numb today its somewhat tingly and numb. I can feel if something is on my tongue but most feeling is masked, I have no sense of taste on the one side of my tongue. I'd appreciate if someone can give me signs of this condition getting better or worse. I'd like to see my dentist but I'm unable to see him until Friday so I'm looking for advice in the meantime.

Max is right. The needle was right on the lingual nerve that supplies the tongue was bruised by the needle. This is not uncommon and from what you describe will gradually get better until fully normal My guess is 2 days to 2 weeks. Let the dentist know anyway.
