Root canal questions?

I have to wait to get a root canal, I might be a long while since my insurance and root canal type conflicts with it so I have to wait probably some months. Will my teeth rot even more? What are some good tips for good dental care for root canals? I'm brushing 3 times a day and up too the gums, flossing, drinking tea here and there and I'm gonna lay off the sweets which I think started some pain today(Haven't had pain in a while..) What can I do in the meantime to help myself and what can I do too stop the pain(have oragel but isn't too effective) one last qeustion does it matter between different root canal treatement types? Cause it's annoying the **** out of me I just want to get a f-ing root canal. Thanks for the responses
