Personally, I feel like I need to thoroughly clean produce before I eat it, and water just doesn't seem good enough. Aside from the wax and pesticides, do you ever think about how many germ-covered hands touch your produce before you take a bite of it? The stocker, many other customers (and their runny-nosed kids), and the cashier. How many of those sneezed or coughed into their hands before touching your fruits and veggies? And are coming to the grocery store before they're fully well from the flu or strep throat? I sound like a complete germaphobe, don't I? But you have to admit it still sounds pretty gross.
