I want to take care of my teeth and gums. I want full dental health. I never want a tooth ache.. EVER! I've seen people who have tooth ache whenever they eat something cold (this happened to me recently and I had a filling done) or in general their teeh are aching. What is the best way to look after your teeth? Let's make this post to the ultimate answers page for everyone who wants better dental health.

dental health consists of 2 things: the teeth themselves, and the gums that surround them. you can lose teeth by getting big cavities and decay but you can also loose them by having gum disease like periodontitis. in order to take care of both aspects: 1. brush your teeth- use a soft bristle brush and ask your dentist/hygienist to teach you how to brush properly. i would also recommend a mechanical brush. 2. floss- at least everyday. esp if you have a tendency to get cavities. flossing gets to all the plaque and bacteria which cannot be reached by your toothbrush. also, flossing is very very important to the health of your gums. think of your gums as the foundation of your teeth. if the foundation is compromised with disease (like periodontitis/gingivitis) then it doesn't matter how healthy your teeth are. they will have to be extracted because their gums cannot support them. 3. use a flouride rinse- they are available in any supermarket or drug store (like ACT flouride rinse). flouride helps to make teeth stronger and so prevents future cavities 4. get professional dental cleanings at least every 6 months- there are areas of the mouth that you can't see or have access to with just toothbrush and floss. you need a professional with special tools to give you a thorough cleaning and exam to maintain the heath of your fums and teeth. note: i am a dentist and i realized that i have been brushing and flossing improperly my whole life until i went to dental school and was taught the proper technique. its very surprising to realize that most people are not brushing and flossing properly simply because no one taught them.
