recently i have had some slight pain around my 2nd bicuspid/1st molar area. the tooth has hurt some, but the gum on the inside seems quite inflamed & swollen. when i brush my teeth the area between these two bleeds, substantially more than i have seem before, but stops relatively soon after. my dental history is pretty good: a few cavities - i do tend to have periods of great dental care and then sometimes when i slack off with my brushing and flossing especially, although i have never had a problem more than a bit of bleeding when i begin to floss again. while im sure alot of people will answer this with -BRUSH & FLOSS ALL THE TIME AT LEAST 2X A DAY - i am looking for a bit more in depth idea of what my problem could be. i am due to see the dentist soon but do not know if this should prompt me to get a more immediate appointment because there could be a serious problem. researching inflamed gums online gives me a list of disease possibilities, but i am not sure if the fact that my problem is concentrated to just one area makes a difference. thanks!!

Hi dear for your information i m a dental surgeon, and as you describe your problem i think few possibilities are there , 1.if your bicuspid or first molar are decayed from past few months than it may be a periapical abscess which is due to infection may reach to apex of teeth which cause pain and swelling of gum in this case you need a Root canal treatment after appropriate drug treatment 2. If you dont have any decayed 2nd cuspid and 1 molar than possibilities are there of gingival abscess in which your teeth may tender on percussion , with swelling of gum, so you need to visit a dentist soon to rule out the problem and one more thing than dont panic and be cool there is no serious problem these are easily curable, so please go to a dentist so that he will take x-ray and examine the lesion and i m sure you will be treated easily. best of luck
