Will a OB induce labor when a root canal is needed?

Monday, March 7, 2011

I am 34 weeks pregnant. Almost 35. Healthy pregnancy. My dentist is advising not to have the dental work done until after delivery if I can. Also have to travel 8 hours to get it done. I moved and don't have a dentist in town yet. So, can an OB induce at term to have the infection taken care of? I'm pretty much running out of options. What are the chances of my OB doing this? Maybe do an ultrasound to make sure the baby is developed before inducing? Is this an option? I swear I will get a dentist in town after this whole ordeal:)!!!

Your doctor will most likley not induce you. Not just for a root canal. I had very bad gestational diabetes & I had to wait until 39 weeks to be induced. My doctor told me that the baby was not fully developed until 39 weeks, & therefore they wouldn't allow it. So probably not. At 39 weeks or after that should be fine, but most doctors don't induce unless it's absolutly neccessary. They'll probably just make u wait until the baby comes on his/her own. I actually needed 2 root canals & my dentist told me just to wait until I had the baby, I used abesol & stuff like that since I was told not to take any kind of medication. (even antibiotics)
